Home Addition Scope of Work

The client desired a renovation to the home that would increase the appeal and usability of the entry wing of their home, all while incorporating a Spanish Revival architectural style that was inspired by their love for certain homes in Florida. Blue Ridge Design Build removed an existing entry wing to the home and started fresh. The project consisted of a new 40’x30’ three-car garage addition, a 30’x12’ entry wing remodel, and a full primary suite renovation.

Some of the unique materials installed on this project required unconventional sourcing and training. The roofing was likely the most unique part of this project. It is a Decra metal shingle that was created to mimic traditional Spanish-style Terracotta. The wall covering is painted stucco, and the windows are complete with custom iron glass guards. The grand entry is complete with A prominent front door and an octagonal shaped sitting area that looks out over the farm.

The Addition and Tie-in cut directly into the space shared by the primary bedroom and bathroom. This work was an ideal time to update these spaces as well. The bathroom was remodeled to include a large shower, walk-in closet with laundry chute, and a private toilet room. The bedroom finishes were updated to match. Overall, this project was one of the most challenging but rewarding projects to look back on that Blue Ridge has completed over the years.

An obvious design challenge was to visualize concepts that would meet the client’s desire and be a feasible addition to the existing structure. Additionally, a seating & morning coffee area was requested as part of the new grand entry. The client desired this space to stand out as a statement piece of its own, and this was achieved through an octagon construction witha slate roof above. Incorporating this structure into the rest of the design was a challenge at first, but eventually worked well as an anchor point for the left side of the entryway.

At its time of completion, this project was one of the most unique custom styles our company had completed. These non-standard products called for special care and planning to ensure they were installed with best practices. Products like the roofing required the purchase of special tools to install.
