Timothy Lawrence

Tim Lawrence Founded Blue Ridge Design Build in December of 1979, making Blue Ridge Design Build 45 years old! Tim is a Blacksburg native who graduated from Blacksburg High School in 1978 with a degree in “I don’t have time to waste in college; I have work to do.”

Tim grew up on a small farm and worked at a local hog farm while in high school. He had a family friend who told him he should get out of that and get a construction job where he could make better money. So, he was hired for a job at a construction company that was building out a sub-division. He was also working at a local pizza restaurant while in high school.

He soon quit the farm and the restaurant and worked full-time at the construction company. It turned out that Tim loved construction, and he wanted to learn all that he could. Unfortunately, the construction company closed, and Tim needed a new job. He was able to find work in North Carolina at a farm building large barns. While there, he was able to get experience in concrete, foundation work, and framing. He worked there for one year until all needed buildings were constructed.

Tim returned to Blacksburg, where he founded Blue Ridge Home Improvement (now Blue Ridge Design Build). Tim’s father was a banker in town and was well-known in the Blacksburg community. He knew people would always complain about never being able to find reliable contractors to work on their property. Tim’s father suggested that Tim go into the home improvement business with the advice to “Be honest and do what you say you are going to do, do good work, and you will always have plenty of work.” Tim took that to heart and started Blue Ridge Home Improvement the next month (after his time on the farm) with that advice as his core principle. These principles still resonate with the community and its needs 45 years later.

Tim’s love for learning more about construction did not stop; he now holds certifications as Certified Graduate Remodeler, Certified Master Builder, Certified Green Builder, Certified Aging in Place Specialist, and Certified Land Disturber. Tim’s favorite part about his job is creating a satisfied customer for life.

Tim enjoys woodworking, sawmilling, photography, cooking, and reading outside of work.

Tim’s favorite food is anything BBQ.
